TRAILBLAZER ADVENTURES | SAFETY AND RISK DISCLOSURE
Last updated: 08/12/2025
At Trailblazer Adventures, safety is our highest priority. We take great care in planning, preparation, risk assessment, and decision-making — but all outdoor activities come with inherent risks.
This Safety & Risk Disclosure explains those risks, your responsibilities, and our commitment to keeping you as safe as possible.
By booking or participating in any Trailblazer Adventures trip, course, workshop, or activity, you acknowledge and accept the information below.
1. Our Commitment to Your Safety
Trailblazer Adventures will always:
Conduct detailed risk assessments
Follow industry best practices
Use qualified leaders and instructors
Continuously monitor weather and environmental conditions
Make decisions in the best interest of group safety
Provide clear safety instructions throughout
Act within the scope of our qualifications (Mountain Leader and relevant certifications)
Your safety is at the heart of every decision we make.
2. Inherent Risks in Outdoor Activities
Adventure environments are unpredictable, and the nature of hiking, scrambling, mountain walking, and expedition travel means risks cannot be entirely removed.
These risks may include (but are not limited to):
Slips, trips, and falls
Steep or uneven terrain
Loose rocks or rockfall
Exposure to heights
Weather changes (wind, rain, heat, cold)
Water crossings or wet ground
Fatigue or overexertion
Wildlife encounters
Remote locations with limited access to emergency services
By taking part, you acknowledge that risk is an inherent part of adventure, and complete elimination of risk is impossible.
3. Your Responsibilities
To keep yourself and others safe, you agree to:
Follow all instructions given by your guide
This includes pacing, route choices, clothing requirements, and safety decisions.
Be honest about your fitness, experience, and medical conditions
This helps us plan appropriate routes and manage risk effectively.
Bring appropriate clothing & equipment
A kit list is provided — failure to bring required items may prevent participation.
Inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell, anxious, or unsafe
Your guide’s role is to support you — speak up at any time.
Not take unnecessary risks
(e.g., leaving the group, ignoring instructions, or attempting unsafe moves)
Respect group decisions and the environment
Outdoor safety is a shared responsibility — we work together to keep everyone safe.
4. Medical Conditions
You must disclose any medical condition that may affect your ability to participate, including:
Asthma
Heart conditions
Diabetes
Injuries
Anxiety or panic conditions
Allergies
Medication needs
This information is kept confidential.
Failure to disclose relevant information may increase risk and may result in removal from an activity with no refund.
5. Environmental & Weather Factors
Mountains and outdoor environments can change quickly.
Your guide may adjust the route, pace, or itinerary based on:
High winds
Heat or cold
Rain, snow, or storms
Visibility
Avalanche risk (winter-specific)
River levels
Group ability
You agree to follow these decisions even if it means altering or shortening the planned route.
Safety always comes first.
6. Participation & Personal Risk Acceptance
By joining a Trailblazer Adventures activity, you confirm that:
You understand the inherent risks of outdoor activities
You accept responsibility for your own actions
You understand that accidents can happen even with proper care
You will act cautiously and follow guidance
You participate voluntarily and at your own risk
We minimise unnecessary danger, but we cannot guarantee absolute safety.
7. Personal Equipment & Loss
Trailblazer Adventures is not responsible for:
Lost or damaged personal equipment
Broken phones, cameras, glasses, etc.
Items dropped on trails or ridges
Bring only what you are comfortable carrying and protecting.
8. Fitness Requirements
Our trips vary in difficulty, but all require a basic level of physical fitness.
You must ensure you are physically capable of completing the advertised routes.
If you are unsure, please contact us before booking — we are happy to advise.
9. Emergency Situations
In the event of injury, illness, or incident:
Our guide will take charge of the situation
Emergency services may be contacted
Routes may be altered or abandoned
Additional costs (e.g., transport, accommodation) may fall to the participant and/or their travel insurance
This is standard practice in adventure environments.
10. Insurance Requirements
For expeditions such as Madeira, you must have:
Travel insurance
Medical cover
Cancellation cover
Appropriate activity cover (e.g., trekking, mountain walking)
Failure to provide insurance may prevent participation.
11. Children & Vulnerable Adults
Unless specified otherwise, our trips are for adults 18+.
Exceptions may be made at our discretion with proper safeguarding measures.
12. Understanding & Acceptance
By booking, paying a deposit, joining a payment plan, or participating in any event, you confirm that you:
