Who it’s for: Hillwalkers with good fitness who want to take their first steps onto grade 1 scrambling terrain. No previous scrambling experience required.

Walking to Scrambling Course Overview — 1 Day in the Ogwen Valley
This one-day walking to scrambling course in the Ogwen Valley is designed for those who want to take their hillwalking further and gain confidence on steeper, more challenging terrain. Perfect for walkers looking to step up to grade 1 scrambles, the course introduces the essential skills, techniques, and judgment needed to move safely and enjoyably where the ground becomes more hands-on.
With a maximum group size of four, you’ll benefit from close support and tailored coaching in one of Eryri’s most iconic mountain areas.
Participants will learn how to:
Understand the transition from walking paths to scrambling ground
Use effective movement techniques on rock for balance and security
Identify and follow safe lines on grade 1 scrambles
Apply route-finding strategies in complex terrain
Develop confidence and decision-making skills in exposed situations
Our experienced instructors will guide you on classic grade 1 scrambles in the Ogwen Valley, providing plenty of practical experience and encouragement as your confidence grows. By the end of the day, you’ll have the skills to approach easy scrambles with greater assurance and enjoyment.
No prior scrambling experience is required, but a good level of hillwalking fitness is recommended.

Group size is limited to a maximum of four participants to ensure plenty of individual attention and a supportive learning environment.
